While keeping teeth healthy is often at the forefront of every patient’s mind, gum health plays just as much of an important role as dental health does. Without healthy gums, your teeth have no reliable foundation, which is precisely why gum disease is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults. Whether you have gum disease or you’re doing everything you can to avoid it, Dr. Cabansag has your back. Call our office if you’re in need of gum disease treatment!
When you have advanced levels of gum disease, you need to have plaque and tartar removed from deep below the gum line, not just next to it. With scaling, Dr. Cabansag can effectively remove harmful plaque from areas of the mouth that a toothbrush simply cannot reach. During root planing, we smooth out the roots of teeth so they can properly re-attach to your existing teeth, effectively reducing the risk of additional infection.
After your scaling and root planing is completed, it’s important that you come back for a follow-up cleaning every three to four months. However, between these follow-up appointments, we apply an antibiotic treatment by placing the topical medication directly in the pockets that have formed as a result of your gum disease. Over time, the medication dissolves into your gums and promotes healing of your gum tissue, accelerating the overall process.
